"State government is the
center point of this labyrinth..." One
of the bedrock principles incorporated into this site is the utilization of
state government as the linchpin to content and e-business. The environmental
industry operates within a morass of international, federal, state and local
government laws, regulations, ordinances, policies and treaties. State
government has evolved as the center point of this labyrinth. Over
the years, a highly complex system of environmental industry controls have
developed that are intricately crafted, implemented and interpreted throughout
the various levels of government, but the "state" has emerged as the
focal point. For example, the vast number of federal laws and regulations
affecting the industry are eventually delegated to the states
for implementation and enforcement; and even the most localized ordinances and
rules of cities, towns and counties operate within a state-authorized
legislative framework. While there is a degree of uniformity between state
environmental programs the federal regulatory umbrella is purposely designed to
be flexible to accommodate the workings of individual states. To
be successful as an environmental industry portal, an Internet site must clearly
recognize the distinct differences that exist between individual state
government systems -- from the core socio-economic infrastructure, to political
& legislative structure, administrative organizations, governmental
jurisdictions, grassroots involvement and judicial case law; as well as the
general character, geography, climate and environment. EcoBizport seeks to
set itself apart from other related portals by recognizing this important
principle.
Michigan is our starting point because that is where we currently have
operations. Other states will be phased in as we perfect the state-specific
portal model and identify individual state hosts and resources to provide the
in-depth knowledge necessary to assure a consistent level of overall quality.
As the site matures, and the state components are fully developed; combined with
sub-level "specialty" and "industry
sector" focus, we believe it will provide an unparalleled opportunity
for integrated advertising, service/facility marketing and information
management throughout the environmental community.
EcoBizport welcomes contacts and inquiries from
other states and websites focusing on environmental issues within other states or
regions. We would be very interested in discussions of formal and informal
partnerships with others involved in the pursuit of a similar mission.
EcoBizport welcomes links to this site and the
